How to pack lightly for your active vacation
Are you taking a summer vacation this year?
Every year my in-laws gather to celebrate 4th of July on the eastern seaboard - the quaint vacation town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Like any good tradition, I do the same things every year: take beach cruisers on 20-mile bike rides through the state park, go to hot yoga classes every morning, read books on the beach, dance to live music at the bandstand, and on cloudy days run past the mansions in the richest neighborhood.
Of course this means packing accordingly!
As a minimalist packer, fitting everything in a carry-on is a MUST. I even donated my larger suitcase because I didn't want to be tempted to overpack!
So I've compiled for you this list of travel products I bring on every active summer trip. I hope it helps!
PORTABLE FOAM ROLLER
A few years ago I flew a red-eye to a yoga retreat and my back was all tweaked. Magically, my roommate had brought a portable foam roller! It saved the day so I bought one and now I bring it everywhere!
MINI MASSAGE GUN
I was an early adopter of the massage gun and still have my OG Hypervolt. But it's huge and doesn't travel well. So for Christmas a couple years ago I received a travel massage gun and it's perfect! It's the size of my hand with the functionality of the larger model. Of course, it travels with me too.
FOLDING YOGA MAT
Long story short, I've spent a small fortune on renting yoga mats and realized it was more cost-effective to purchase a travel yoga mat!
So I read all the reviews and found this one. I love it! It folds up into a square and easily fits in my carry-on suitcase.
Beach/Yoga Towel
An important factor in minimalist packing is ensuring one item has multiple uses. This beach towel is perfect because it's lightweight and folds quite small, sand doesn't get stuck to it, fits perfectly over a mat for hot yoga classes, AND I use it as a blanket on red-eye flights.
WATER BOTTLE
If you follow water bottle trends, you know there's alot to choose from! This is my current favorite, especially for travel! The seal is tight enough the the water doesn't explode out at elevation, it fits in the seat back pocket in the airplane, there's a straw or you can sip like a cup, and there's a little handle on top for ease of carrying.
ELECTROLYTES
Staying hydrated is extra important on an active summer vacation where it's hot and you're sweating and you may or may not be slightly hungover. I add one of these electrolyte packets to my water bottle every morning to ensure I have the energy to get through all the fun outdoor activities of the day!
BEACH BAG
There's alot of beach bags on the market these days. This is the one I have. I use it as my Personal Item on the plane as it easily slides under the seat in front of me and it easily holds all my stuff. I love that it's waterproof and sheds sand easily while being stylish enough to schlep around town. It also fits my fold up yoga mat and towel for a nice stroll to yoga class. Win Win!
Packing Cubes
Packing cubes have been around for a long time but I just got these ones and they're my new favorite set! They don't all fit in my carry-on at one time, but I like to mix and match them based on what I'm bringing. Plus I love the hanging toiletry bag.
